American Sign Language

Mondays, 3:45pm-4:30pm

January 6, 13, 27, February 3, 10, 24

ASL is classified as a world language, the same as any other foreign language.  When a child speaks in sign language they are considered bilingual. This session, taught by Miss Taneisha, will introduce ASL to our children.  They will learn greetings, names of family members, foods, feelings, animals and eventually lead up to full sentences. Research has proven that children who know ASL have accelerated speech, strong emotional development, strong communication skills, less frustration, improves attentiveness, increases reading vocabulary and gives them greater memory attention.

Rockin’ Robotics

Mondays, 3:45pm-4:30pm

(Children must be 3+ years old in order to participate in this class.)

Miss Sam’s Rockin’ Robotics program is designed to introduce young minds to the concept of programming and robotics through fun, age-appropriate hands-on learning.  Over the course of this program, children will meet and learn how to program the Park Shore’s robots. The children will be introduced to the concept of robotics and programming by using directional language such as arrows and commands to move robots through mazes and various challenges.  Legos, blocks and other tools will be used to inspire creativity while learning about basic programming sequencing. iPads and art supplies will be incorporated as part of the curriculum to add another dimension to their interactive learning experience.

Our Bookworms Program, Miss Candy will have our students identifying letters, sounds, sight words, and literacy concepts to help promote early reading and writing readiness. Students will learn how to incorporate the high-frequency words that are found in most structures of a sentence. Words such as it, and, I, this, at, etc are words we like to call popcorn words. When early readers gain these skills, reading becomes a reality. We will also present the beginning, middle, and ending of a story. Using sentence strips, repetitive words and sentences will give our students extra support for a reading experience. This program will give our students a strong foundation for phonemic awareness and writing.
