Dear Park Shore Families,
I hope that you had a Happy Halloween! It is such a pleasure to watch your children settle into their new school routines, and to see their happy faces as they visit my Computer Science Lab! The children enter the room excited to see what I have in store for them each day and are quickly becoming acclimated to the different technology in the room and the software that we use.
Following along with the Park Shore curriculum, over the course of the past month we have focused on the color yellow, the color red, circles, squares, triangles and reinforced all shapes and colors for our preschoolers by playing online learning games on the SMART Board and iPads. The SMART Board is one of my favorite tools and I love incorporating it into our computer lessons as much as possible. We have utilized the SMART Board several times over the past weeks in order to cover the shapes and colors, in addition to letter review for our 4 year-olds.
As we welcome Autumn, we covered the season by watching a great Scholastic learning video on our SMART Board about Fall and all of its beautiful colors, as well as learn about the lifecycle of apples. We have begun to use the desktop computers, and the Pre-K and Kindergarteners are all learning how to use the mouse. I love to incorporate creativity with technology, so several of them have already created beautiful online fall pictures using ABCmouse.com, which are hanging in the computer lab. There will be many more to come with Halloween and pumpkin season right around the corner!
This week marks the beginning of the alphabet series, so your children should expect to be entertained as they continue to learn and practice each letter in Computers as well! Ask them about our alphabet music and learning videos and how they practiced writing on the SMART Board and iPads!
Robotics for PreK and Kindergarten
I am thrilled to announce the introduction of the Park Shore robotics program into the classrooms for the 2018/19 school year! Our PreK and Kindergarten classes have received introductory lessons on the concept of robotics and directional programming from me over the past two weeks. I will continue this program with them throughout the school year, however their teachers will also begin to incorporate these concepts within their every-day learning curriculum. Please ask your children about what they have learned thus far! They are so excited and have been amazing and enthusiastic learners and “Programmers”! I will be expanding on these concepts weekly and will also incorporate coding into the program over the next few months. Please look for updates and details from me on the web and in my monthly newsletter.
Enjoy the beautiful and colorful season ahead and I look forward to enriching your children’s learning experience with new and exciting technology! It is my absolute pleasure to work with your children and I welcome any questions, comments or suggestions you may have!
