November 2019 News from Music & Gym

Singing, Signing & Fitness with Miss Taneisha

Dear Park Shore Families,

I can’t believe that it is already November! This school year is surely flying by, but be assured the kids are having so much fun in music. Our Halloween sing-a-long was a huge success! The kids loved being able to interact with the other classes full of their friends. They especially loved it when I brought out my huge bubbling cauldron and all sang along to ‘Witches Brew’.

November brings a lot of different songs to our class. Our new friend, Albuquerque The Turkey, has also come into our classroom and we are learning a funny song about him. November has us exploring many different rhythms as we talk about our Native American friends. We always end our class with our favorite song about Noooooooovember!

We are still learning lots of new words in sign language, and I am so proud of each and every one of them. Their confidence when signing is such an amazing thing to see. I hope they come home and show you all the signs. So far, this month, we have added thank you, turkey, family, friend, food, feather, cat, dog, and proud to our ever-expanding dictionary of signs.

In the gym, we have been playing ‘Gross-Motor Games’ where we use our large muscle groups and whole-body movement. A few different activities we have been doing are playing on our scooters, where we use our legs to help us move across the floor, jump rope where we have to build our strength to jump and bring the rope over our bodies, and gross motor races. In our gross motor races, we are running, marching, hopping, crawling and even crab walking.

Gross motor skills are very important to a growing child and will continue to develop well into adolescence. What a great way to become stronger without even knowing it!

Happy singing and stretching,

Miss Taneisha

We Are Thankful (sung to ‘Frere Jacques’)

For our families, for our families,

On Thanksgiving Day, you will hear us say,
