February News from the Computer & Tech Lab
Interactive learning at its best!
I hope this note finds you all well and that you are staying warm and cozy during the long winter days!
As we wrap up January and the children get back into their routines after the holiday break, we are having so much fun in our computer lab! The focus of our interactive learning curriculum has been on letters through O and numbers. We have begun working on addition in both PreK and Kindergarten using great learning websites such as sheppardsoftware.com and abcya.com. We are also using the Slate Math app which is a wonderful tool.
LOVE is in the air as we as we prepare for Valentine’s Day by creating fun and loving pictures on the computers and iPads. The combination of creativity joined with technological skills is amazing and the children are so proud of the beautiful pictures they create! Please keep an eye out for the items coming home in their folders over the next few weeks!
Our Toddlers and 2/3 year-olds are learning while they “play” as they develop their fine motor skills using the Tiny Hands sorting apps on the iPads. These are great cognitive programs where they need to sort items based on different concepts such as size, shape, color, type, etc. The children love to “play” the games but don’t even realize how much they are learning and developing their motor skills while doing so. We also sprinkle in fun learning videos for the letter of the week and a little dancing and singing along puts big smiles on their faces!
Our PreK classes have been rocking the letter tracing and learning programs, along with their new-found love of robotics and coding! I am so proud of how they have embraced these programs, as well as the concepts and team building skills that they are developing!
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions that you may have about the programs we are using or if you have any suggestions about apps or programs that you use at home and recommend.
Thank you for sharing the joy of your children with us! Stay warm and have a love-filled Valentine’s Day!
